Sheltering in Place vs. Being Stuck

When the storms of life roll in, we can react in many ways.

If fear starts to set in, I often feel stuck. It’s like being trapped and alone…almost claustrophobic.

But if I can remain calm, breath deeply, and start to pray…a sense of peace washes over me.  It could be described as feeling “sheltered.” Instead of fear and claustrophobia creeping in, I start to feel that I am being protected and cared for and deeply loved.

Whether the storms are physical, emotional or spiritual, the dynamic is the same. Prayer makes all the difference in the world.

What often helps me is re-calling and praying the words of the 23rd Psalm. “The Lord is my Sheperd, there is nothing I shall want….”

When I let the words of the psalm wash over me, fear leaves and peace fills my heart. It is then that I feel safe and comforted by the Beloved, The Good Shepherd, who will be at my side until I am safely home.
